What Is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia is the name of a medical condition where a man’s chest is enlarged and sagging, making it look like a woman’s breasts. Gynecomastia is the swelling of the male’s chest due to hormonal imbalance within. The hormones in question are estrogen and testosterone. Gynecomastia can happen to men of all ages - from newborns to adolescents to grown-men. It can affect one breast or both of them, depending on the hormonal imbalance.

Dr Shree Harsh of Pinnacle Cosmetic Surgery in Lucknow performs gynecomastia surgery on men with man-boobs. In the Gynecomastia Surgery, the doctor removes the fatty tissue, the excess skin and reshapes the chest to be in proportion with the rest of the body. The surgical techniques for Reduction Mammaplasty include liposuction and excision.

How Do Patients Benefit From Gynecomastia Surgery?

Patients who are suffering from Gynecomastia are most often under-confident. They are embarrassed of their physical condition. Once they undergo Gynecomastia Surgery they regain their confidence.

The biggest benefit of this surgery is that it completely cures the patient of Gynecomastia. In fact if the patient has undergone Gynecomastia Surgery the chances of him having Gynecomastia again in his lifetime are almost zero.

What Happens During The Recovery Period?

Once you are brought out of the Operation Theater, Dr Shree Harsh will keep you under observation and monitor your vitals. You will be discharged when the doctor believes you are on the right track to recovery!

First off, you will be given support garments to wear during your recovery period. These garments assist the body during the healing process and reduce swelling and bruising.

Other than that, you will be prescribed with certain medications that keep you comfortable and pain-free. He will advise you to restrict your physical activity for a couple of weeks and take rest. The average recovery period is 2-4 weeks. But yours will be determined based on your unique case.

What Happens During The Gynecomastia Procedure?

First and foremost Dr Shree Harsh will administer general anaesthesia on you. The anaesthesia numbs sensation and mostly puts a patient to sleep during the surgery.

The next step is liposuction. Dr Shree Harsh will make incisions near the areola and insert the cannula inside the chest. Then the excess fat will be removed using suction techniques.

In case the Gynecomastia is caused only due to excess fat, then just liposuction is enough to cure the condition.

But in most cases, the doctor has to take the next step of excision. During the excision the doctor will remove the excess skin and reposition the areola at a higher point in proportion to the new shape of the chest.

Once this is completed, the surgeon will close the excision with sutures, gel and surgical bandages. Dr Shree Harsh may leave a drain pipe in to remove any excess fluid from the system.
