FAQs

How should I choose an obstretician?

Your obstetrician will play an important role during your pregnancy, helping you make healthy choices and taking you right through labor and delivery. Ideally, you want to make sure the obstetrician you choose is someone with whom you feel comfortable. You can get to know a doctor by scheduling a consultation prior to your first exam. Ask lots of questions and discuss your concerns during the consultation to make sure you feel at ease.

Ask if the doctor has experience in high-risk pregnancies and deliveries, especially if you have preexisting conditions like diabetes that increase your risks for complications.

Be sure the doctor you choose has access to the most advanced, state-of-the-art testing techniques to help identify potential problems early in your pregnancy so they can be treated and addressed.

What should I expect during a prenatal visit?

Typically, in early pregnancy, you’ll meet with Dr. Ruchita about once a month for routine checkups. She will track your weight gain, monitor your blood pressure, urine, and other vitals, listen for the baby, measure the uterus, and give you an overall assessment of how your body and your baby are doing. Routine testing and lab work will also be conducted during certain appointments.

Questions to ask your Obstetrician
  • Who will deliver my baby?
  • What do I do about my history with certain health conditions?
  • Are all my medications safe for pregnancy?
  • Should I be taking a prenatal vitamin?
  • Can I continue exercising?
  • What kind of diet should I follow?
  • What screenings do I need?
  • Whom should I contact in case of emergencies?

What can I do to help ensure I have a healthy pregnancy and delivery?

As with any pregnancy, eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise are important in ensuring both you and your baby stay healthy. Depending on your condition, Dr. Ruchita can provide guidance regarding diet and exercise choices. She may also advise taking supplements like folic acid. Of course, you should not smoke or drink alcohol while pregnant, and you should always be sure to keep all your doctor appointments so you and your baby can be properly monitored.

What is immunization?

Vaccination plays an important role for the health of mother and the baby. There is a benefit for women to be immunized to reduce their chances of morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases. Before administering a vaccine to a pregnant woman, the prenatal health care provider must know the immunogenic material in the vaccine.
