What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty, also known as Labial Reduction Surgery, is a type of cosmetic surgery that is used to reduce the size, shape, and contour of the labia minora and even the labia majora. This surgical procedure helps to reduce the excess labia tissue and reveal an attractive and more aesthetically pleasing genital area.

This procedure is often referred to as a “vaginal rejuvenation” procedure as it helps to restore the appearance of vaginal area by reducing the size of normal labia tissues. For some patients, this procedure is done alongside “fat grafting” to help add volume in the area if necessary.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is suitable for women who experience labial discomfort such as irritations or infections due to enlarged labia. This procedure can also provide relief to those who find difficulty in wearing tight clothing or taking part in physical activities because of the enlarged labia. Furthermore, many women opt for a Labiaplasty to fix the labia lips which may have sagged over time.

In addition, Labiaplasty may also be used to increase self-confidence and help women feel good about the appearance of their genitals. The ideal candidate for this procedure should meet the following criteria:

How is the Labiaplasty Procedure Performed?

During a labiaplasty procedure, the targeted area will be numbed before a scalpel or laser is used to remove the excess labia tissue. This tissue will be removed to reduce the size of the labia minora. Depending on patient’s appearance goals a “scalpelling” technique or a laser technique can be used. Following the procedure, Dr. Shree Harsh will reconstruct and reposition the labia minora and labia majora in the desired shape and size. He may also apply fat grafting, if needed. After the completion of the procedure, sutures would be used to close any incisions creating a final, more desired, aesthetic outcome.

What Results Can You Expect from Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty surgery can bring desired, lasting results to the patients. There can be an immediate and noticeable difference in their genitalia, however, the final results may take some time as the tissue needs to heal completely. In the longer term, you should expect the following improvements:

What is the Recovery Process Like After Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure which means the patient is able to go home after completion of the procedure. During the recovery period, patients are advised to take complete bed rest and should wear supportive stockings and loose-fitting clothing. Patients should frequently sit in a warm bathtub or soak in a warm Epsom salt bath to help improve the healing process after Labiaplasty. Sutures are usually dissolvable, however, they may need to be removed after 7-10 days. Complete recovery may take anywhere between 3-4 weeks.
